                                Dear Parent or Gaurdian,

Due to failing to meet adequately yearly progress (AYP) because of inconsistent student attendance and lower performance scores on the Ohio Achievement Test, your child is eligible for supplemental educational services (SES) tutoring services under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. Because of the No Child Left Behind funding, your child can receive extra help in reading and mathematics. You can receive this free tutoring because your child’s school is in its second year or later of School Improvement, and your family meets the income limits under the law. As a parent or guardian, you may decide whether or not to request free tutoring services for your child. In addition to providing you with the option to obtain SES, our school has taken several steps to increase our AYP, such as increasing teacher/staff professional development, hiring reading/math coaches and consultants, creating a new leadership team to focus on data, implementing a new Language Arts program, and but not limited to increasing our title one reading/math teachers and services. Parents/Guardians can become involved in addressing academic issues by signing their child up for tutoring, participate in school-wide functions, help students with homework, and increase home-to-school communication with their child’s teacher. On the backside of this letter is a registration form. Also included is a Parent Handbook of available tutoring providers.

If you choose to request tutoring for your child, please look at the Parent Handbook to learn more about the various tutoring programs. You may go on-line to http://webapp1.ode.state.oh.us/provider_proposal/lookup/for additional tutoring providers. Or, you may contact your child’s school office for a copy of additional providers and/or ask to speak with Andrea Smith, our Title One Coordinator.

When completing the enclosed registration form, be sure to:

                                ·         Fill in ALL information correctly,

                                ·         Write both your 1st and 2nd choice of providers (space is limited with some providers so it’s important to select two),

                                ·         Sign and date the form,

                                ·         Return the enclosed original form to Melissa McManaway, Principal.

Parents and guardians will be contacted by their chosen provider following the end of the registration period. The Provider will meet with parents to develop an education plan for their children and to let them know where and when tutoring will begin. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and the Provider.

All registration forms are due by Friday October 29, 2010
